Here is what it costs.

You should be able to work out a weekly figure at eleven o’clock at night without giving anybody your phone number.

There is no assessment fee, no registration fee, no minimum contract term, and no charge for changing your caregiver.

Placeholder figures. Every $XX below will be replaced with Finding Dora’s real rates before launch.

Hourly rates

Minimum visit [X] hours. Rates include wages, WCB, insurance, supervision and scheduling; there are no separate admin charges.

Nights and continuous care

Arrangement What it means Rate
Overnight, awake Caregiver stays awake, typically 10pm to 6am $XXX per night
Overnight, sleeping Caregiver sleeps, wakes as needed, own bed required $XXX per night
24-hour care Rotating caregivers, someone awake at all times $XXX per day
Live-in One caregiver residing in the home, private room required $XXX per day

An honest warning about 24-hour care. Round-the-clock private care can cost more than a Type B continuing care home. Staying at home is a legitimate choice; we will just make sure you are making it with the real numbers in front of you.

Typical weekly cost

Apply funded public hours first and most of these figures come down. Ask us to do that arithmetic with you.

What you can claim back

None of this is tax advice, and thresholds change every year. Check with an accountant or at canada.ca.

Medical expense tax credit

Attendant care paid to a care agency is generally an eligible medical expense on a federal return. Keep every invoice.

Disability tax credit

If your parent is markedly restricted in dressing, feeding, walking or mental functions, they may qualify. It requires a form certified by a medical practitioner.

Canada caregiver credit

Claimed by the family member supporting a dependant with a physical or mental impairment.
